One Dream

One Dream

“Awesome Lily a new record, 29.6 seconds,” Lisa Lily’s aunt announced.
Lisa is a professional Barrel Racer; she has won Top Female Barrel Racer four years running. Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday she trains her fourteen year old niece Lily to help her reach the top of the charts just like her.

Lily has long brown hair and brown eyes, she loves horses and is passionate about the sport Barrel Racing. All Lily has ever wanted to do was follow in her aunt’s footsteps.
After her parents split up Liz Lily’s mother noticed a drastic change in her daughter. Lily went from a straight A student to almost fail. Liz moved in with her sister Lisa, Liz had noticed a huge change in her.

“What do you think mom?” Lily asked her mom anxiously. “Fantastic!” Liz answered warily. “ You hated it didn’t you.” “No! just because I hate horses doesn’t mean I’m not proud of you.” Lily nodded and smiled in agreement. “You can walk him around to cool him off, he looks like he deserves it, on such a hot day. Then get him settled in his stall with some breakfast and then you can come eat,” Lisa instructed Lily. “ okay”.

Once Copper Lily’s horse was settled in she gave Spartan, Wild Storm, and Rosie there breakfast as well, then she sprinted in for her breakfast too.

“Delicious!” Lisa exclaimed. “Thank-you. What do you think lily?” Liz asked. Lily just sat there away in thought. What’s it going to be like? Will the Rodeo team accepted me ? Lily thought to herself. “Lily?” “Lily!” both Liz and Lily shouted. Lily jumped and answered “what?” Lisa and Liz giggled. “What do you think of breakfast?” Liz asked still giggling.
“Yeah it’s awesome,” Lily replied smiling.

At 10:30 A.M. they all rode up to Calgary in Lisa’s Chevy truck, for the rodeo competition. “I’m so nervous what if someone can go faster than 29.6 seconds?” Lily asked fast, Lily could feel sweat coming through her palms.
“Slow down Lily, you’ll do fine, you now what I found when I was trying out?” Liz exclaimed.
“What?” “I did way better when I tried out.”
“Really? But what if that doesn’t occur for me? What if I worry so much that I do worse?” “Th…” “Don’t say that,” Liz butted in while Lisa and Lily stared at her in shock, but she just ignored them. “When I watch you ride Copper you now who I saw? Your aunt. You now what that means?” Liz asked. “That I’m as good as her?” Lily answered nervously.
“Not necessarily, it’s going to take time, you don’t think your aunt got this far in one try out.” Lily nodded and then looked at Lisa, “what your mom said” Lisa said pointing at Liz.
“Wow, when did you male speeches like that about horse sports,” Lisa whispered.
“She’s my daughter.” Liz replied quietly.
“Lily McDonald,” called the announcer. “Oh my gosh!” Lily shouted nervously. Liz bent down and comforted her by saying, “remember what you told me?” Lily shook her head. “I’m in my own world when I’m riding Copper, it’s a time to free my mind,” Liz said. Lily shook her head looking a bit more confident.
Lily circled all three barrels in a perfect time! Liz and Lisa shouted, “Good job!!” “Thanks” Lily answered.
“10.200 seconds, defiantly a new record for a fourteen year old!” the announcer shouted. “Oh my god!” Liz and Lisa screamed. “I can’t believe it your guy’s advice worked!” Lily shouted.

One hour later a rodeo contestant came over and said, “are you Lily McDonald?” “Yes” Lily answered. “I’m Jake Mohr welcome to the team!” he shouted. “Your next competition is in four weeks.” “Oh my god oh my god!” Lily screamed. “Congrats,” Liz and Lisa yelled.
One week past and Lily already had a count down.
“Time to go Lily,” Liz called.
“Next up is Lisa Graham on Spartan!” Everything was fine until the third barrel, a bird flew directly at Spartan’s head causing him to bring his head up smacking Lisa in the head, Lisa was knocked off balance onto the barrel hitting the back of her head. Lisa laid there unconscious. The crowd gasped. Lily called out, “Aunty!” and Liz called, “Lisa!” Lily jumped over the fence and sprinted over to the paramedics surrounding her aunt. “Young lady I need you to leave” “she’s my aunt.” Lily shouted through tears. “Come on Lily we’ll follow them to the hospital,” Liz explained.

After six hours in the ER they were informed that Lisa had a severe broken hip and she was in a coma. “Can she still compete?” Liz asked. “I’m afraid not,” the doctor explained. “Do you have any questions sweetheart?” Liz asked Lily. Lily shook her head no and avoiding and glances with the doctor and her mother. “Can we see her?” Liz asked with fingers crossed. “Yes but we still have tests to do so please be quick.”
“Are you coming Lily?” Liz asked. Lily shook her head and headed for the car. Liz was puzzled but followed her out.

The week dragged by for Liz and Lily.
“Lily we should go see your aunt,” Liz called.
“Okay. First I have something to tell you. I’m quitting the rodeo team, with aunty in the hospital in doesn’t seem right.” “What!” Liz shouted in shock. “It’s my decision,” Lily told her mom and walked to the truck.
“Auntie come back please,” Liz walked in quietly and said “she needs. And so do I. Lily jumped but didn’t say anything. “Auntie there’s something you should now. I’m quitting the rodeo team.” There was a minute of silence, a flicker of eyelids and then a faint noise that was barely a word but loud enough for Lily and Liz to make out, “No you can’t,” Lisa managed to say. “Auntie?” “Sis?” “You can’t you can’t quit. “I can’t do it without you.” “I’m not going to be here for ever. You have to keep the family tradition alive, and your dream. Please.” “May I ask every to leave please,” the doctor said politely.
A hour later Lily made her decision. “Ms. McDonald?” “Yes?” “Your sister is doing fabulous! She can leave in a week with a wheel chair for a bit.” “Okay.” Liz answered smiling from ear to ear.

“So?” Lisa asked. “I guess I can do it for you.” “No. The family. Thank-you so much.” “N-n-no problem” Lily stuttered.
A week later Lily was on the rodeo circuit with her aunt proudly watching. “10 seconds by Lily McDonald!” “Fantastic!” both Liz and Lisa shouted.

One year later Lily was given the Top Barrel Racer plaque put right beside her aunt’s four plaques. “I guess dreams can come true!” Lily exclaimed smiling!
